Junior Tennis with Barry Poole

Color Levels are as follows:

White  Players learn basic technique and racquet control

Gold Players are able to rally

Orange Players are ready to begin playing points

Blue Players begin learning patterns and shot variety

Dark Blue Players are beginning match play

Green Players are ready to learn match play patterns and strategies

Dark Green Players work on execution more advanced patterns of match play

Red Players work on match play conditioning and more advanced playing skills

Purple Players are playing matches and work out for match play

Grey Players are advanced players who want to master the game

Black  grip players are professional tennis players who have mastered the game

Match play scheduled Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 1-3 during the Summer depending on levels.

We run 3 week sessions with a week for make ups due to rain through the winter until May.

Junior Academy is now a Grips certified Curriculum

 


SLAMS (Little Grips TBA)

  • Youngsters 4-5 years of age
  • Parents are encouraged to take part in the session
  • Focus is on gross athletic skills of running, tossing, and catching
  • Activities are fast-paced and fun
  • Classes are geared to keep youngsters active in a safe environment
  • Classes are aimed to lay a strong foundation for the development of solid social and tennis specific skills.
  • 1:4 Instructor to student ratio

SUPER SLAM (Little Grips TBA)

  • Youngsters 6-7 years of age
  • Parents are encouraged to be involved
  • Classes continue where the Slams left off
  • Youngsters begin developing age appropriate tennis specific skills
  • Classes are presented in a fun atmosphere with lots of activities
  • Classes are geared to lay the social and physical foundations needed for the youngsters to grow in the game.
  • 1:6 Instructor student ratio

 SATELLITE (Gold through Blue Grips level)

  • Youngsters 7-11 years of age
  • Students are introduced to match play
  • Classes geared to help them develop solid playing skills
  • Classes will include physical development as well
  • Footwork and movement will be stressed in this group
  • Class level commensurate with skills of  the Grips Program's White, gold, and Orange levels.
  • Student Instructor ratio 1:6

NOVICE (White through Gold Grips level)

  • White and Gold introductory level for teens 12-15
  • Classes geared to help them develop rally skills
  • Lay a strong foundation for them to build strong match play skills
  • Footwork and movement skills are developed
  • They will be introduced to match play
  • Student instructor ratio 1:7

CHALLENGERS (Dark Blue through Green Grips levels)

  • Youngsters 7-11 who have reached the blue or green levels of the Grips Program
  • They have begun to develop solid rally skills
  • The focus includes the mental and emotional aspects of match play
  • Fine tuning the physical skills of footwork and movement
  • Lay the groundwork for the development of good decision-making skills
  • Student Instructor ratio 1:6 to 1:7

GRAND SLAM (Dark Green through Grey Grips levels)

  • Youngsters who have reached the Green level in Grips, or who are playing tournaments.
  • Fine tuning the basic skills
  • Develop more advanced skills
  • The class focus on all the ingredients to match play, physical, technical, mental and emotional.
  • Youngsters will be tested to raise their level of play
  • Student Instructor ratio 1:7

JUNIOR TEAM AND TENNIS LADDER

  • Three levels of competition
  • Coaching provided
  • Team tennis atmosphere
  • Match play against teammates and players from other facilities.

  • Current session runs from June 22nd to August 10th.
  • Make up sessions for rain, make ups on May 11 and 18
